Andrew Tarockoff
Andrew Tarockoff earned his Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Wayne State University and is a Fully Licensed Professional Counselor. He has worked in various programs: residential substance use, inpatient psychiatric, substance use peer coaching and outpatient mental health. Andrew has treated patients with a wide variety of mental disorders, at differing severity from clinically significant to severe mental illness. He has worked with individuals, couples, families, therapy groups and support groups. His patient age range is from 18 to 64.

Andrew believes that empathy and a true connection with a therapist can promote change in the patient’s he cares for. He found that as patients grow comfortable in therapy and begin to change, their preferences for therapy style may change as well. Andrew’s therapeutic approach is person centered, and through that framework he applies appropriate interventions based on the needs of the patient. Some approaches that Andrew regularly pulls from are from cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused, existential, gestalt, internal family systems, motivational interviewing, EMDR and trauma informed substance use therapy. Andrew prefers to prepare patients with a variety of coping strategies early in therapy to ensure stability as deeper issues are explored.

Andrew’s areas of interest are recovery from trauma and dual diagnosis (mental health issues accompanied by substance use). Andrew works to create a safe and honest relationship to address client issues with respect and care, and foster change. He has a strong knowledge of addiction and helps clients to heal from trauma, shame and mental health issues that would otherwise lead to relapse.

Andrew has additional experience in the following areas: depression, bi-polar disorder, anxiety, addiction/alcoholism, workplace distress/career challenges, self-harming behaviors, life-transitions, trauma, personality disorders, panic disorders and relationship issues.

Andrew is a Nationally Certified Counselor, Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, and is EMDR and IFS trained.
